About the Creator

Why foundational things exists, and the thinking behind it.

foundational things is built by a software engineer who loves to teach. Years of writing software — where nothing works until you actually understand the layer beneath it — and years of helping people learn led to the same conviction: real understanding is built from first principles. When you grasp the bedrock of a subject, everything above it becomes easier to reason about, remember, and apply. When you skip it, you memorize and forget.

This platform is an attempt to teach the way good engineers actually learn: start from the fundamentals, build up deliberately, and test understanding by using it. AI makes that possible at a personal scale — a patient tutor for each subject that meets you where you are, explains the "why" beneath the "what," and keeps the fundamentals in view instead of rushing past them.

The Philosophy

  • First principles first: understand the bedrock before the shortcuts.
  • Understanding over memorization: aim for knowledge that transfers.
  • Build up deliberately: each idea rests on the one before it.
  • Learn by using: you know it when you can apply it, not just recall it.

The Approach

  • A tutor per subject: focused AI agents for each foundational area.
  • Meet you where you are: start from basics or go deep, at your own pace.
  • Explain the "why": reasoning and intuition, not just answers.
  • Calm and distraction-free: a focused space made for actually learning.

The Goal

The aim is simple: help people master the foundational things that make everything else in life clearer — from mathematics and language to economics, history, and computing. Strong fundamentals compound. They make better choices possible, open up opportunities, and give you the confidence to keep learning on your own. That's the platform this engineer-who-loves-teaching is working to build — and it's improving every day.
